HYDERABAD: The collapse of parts of the roof of a classroom in a government school in Mirpurkhas left nine students and two teachers injured on Thursday. The incident occurred in a government primary school in village Kamal Deen Panhwar.

The incident also triggered a protest by the parents as well as the teachers who complained that despite repeated intimation, the education authorities did not carry out the required repairs and maintenance. The head teacher Zeenat Laghari, who was also injured, told the local media that the roof plasters had previously fallen in the classrooms twice.

According to her, the pieces of plaster fell with a loud explosion. “The schools director and other officials have visited the school but they haven’t yet started the repair works,” she said.

The parents said they will stop sending the children to the school until the crumbling building underwent renovation.

They also demanded the Sindh High Court and the provincial government to take notice of the incident and take action against the officers.

Five female and four male students besides two teachers suffered injuries in the incident. They were shifted to Civil Hospital Mirpurkhas for medical treatment.
