In a rare act of violence in a courtroom, a lawyer on Thursday smashed the head of a senior civil judge with a chair in a local court during proceedings in Jaranwala near Faisalabad.

According to Express News, advocate Imran Manj of the local court attacked the civil judge, Khalid Mehmood Waraich, with a chair over a minor dispute and escaped the scene unchallenged.

The injured was rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Sources, privy to the development, said the medico-legal certificate has been acquired to take legal action against the accused lawyer.

However, an FIR of the incident has been registered and the police were carrying out raids to arrest Mani, they added.

Meanwhile, judges have announced strike against the misappropriate behaviour of lawyers.

Following the unpleasant incident, the Tehsil Bar Jaranwala announced disassociation with advocate Mani and the Punjab Bar Council has been approached to cancel the legal licence of the accused.

In the similar incident on April 8, lawyers allegedly thrashed a warden and an assistant warden for trying to issue them a challan over a violation of traffic rules.

Reportedly, the traffic wardens stopped the lawyers who were riding in a vehicle on Jail Road over the violation of using a cellphone while driving.

Jamil Ahmad | 5 years ago | Reply Sadly, lawyers have become the biggest terrorists in the court thanks to the free hand these people were given during former CJP Iftikhar's tenure. Time to arrest, prosecute and put these away from life. Unless more lawyers are arrested and made an example of they will simply not change their ways. The strangest part is that these lawyers have made it a habit to terrorize the courts and the law enforcement agencies. Unless the government takes them to task they will not learn to behave. As they say: "Badmash sirf danday ki zubaan samajhja hai!"
