Cracks in PCB

Letter April 23, 2019
Most recent controversy to come out of PCB is regarding reform of cricketing structures in the country

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been plagued by politics for a very long time now, which has not only affected the progress of the game, but has also hindered the establishment of an efficient administration.

The most recent controversy to come out of the PCB is regarding the reform of cricketing structures in the country. This was being pursued with the aid of PCB chief Ehsan Mani but majority of the Board of Governors (BoG) were not in favour of his plan.

The 53rd assembly of the board was adjourned because seven of the governors staged a walkout, even though the PCB chief has the prerogative to take such decisions.

However, with the lack of coordination between the PCB chief and the BoG, the government might be pushed into constituting an adhoc governing body for the Board. If the BoG members cannot resolve their internal issues, they will remain ignorant of the issues faced by the players, making them unable to make decisions favourable for Pakistani cricket.

Moreover, the revival of international cricket in Pakistan is still fairly new. To ensure it is a success, the PCB should give all its attention to the game and formulate policies aimed at promoting the game and the interests of players, and avoid doing politics. With the World Cup coming up, the administration needs to focus on providing a motivational and stable platform, so our team may succeed.
