IIUI listed among top-400 universities

ISLAMABAD: International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has been included in the list of top universities of the world according to the University Impact Ranking 2019 report released by Time Higher Education (THE), an organisation that oversees academic quality and related affairs.

The university was given the honour for having met the United Nation’s targets for communities’ sustainable development goals (SDGs), primarily in the area of peace, justice and strong institutions.

Based on the rankings, IIUI has also outdone others in achieving targets for the first and second categories. In addition, IIUI is also included in the top 300 universities in the SDG categories for gender equality, excellence and economic development while the university has also been included in the second category under Pakistani universities.

Similarly, the varsity has also been included in the 301+ universities based on SDG targets for areas in health, standard of living and quality education. IIUI has overall earned remarkable status in the third category of targets.

IIUI Chairman Prof Dr Ahmed Yousuf Al-Darwaish while expressing gratitude for the achievement congratulated the academic and administrative staff of the institution and hoped that they would remain committed to the university in the future by continuing their hard work so that the institution gets the top slot in all world rankings in the future.

Meanwhile, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad ranked at 61, making it the only Pakistani university to make it to the top 100 in the University Impact Ranking 2019.

Moreover, other Pakistani universities on the list which ranked alongside IIUI at 301+ include Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU), COMSATS University, Government College University Lahore, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore, National University of Science and Technology and King Edward Medical University, Lahore.

The Times Higher Education University Impact Ranking is a global performance indicator which assess universities against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs the universities are evaluated through include good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, employment generation and economic growth, industry innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production (an eco-friendly environment), climate action, peace justice and strong institutions. IIUI ranks at 301+ on the University Impact Ranking 2019 for because it strives to establish a community of peace, justice and equality.
