Govt to ensure subsidised sugar rate

Delegation members apprise minister of problems being faced by the sugar industry

LAHORE:
Punjab Minister for Industries and Trade Mian Aslam Iqbal on Friday said that sufficient stock of sugar was available and the government would provide the commodity at subsidised rates in Ramazan bazaars.

He was talking to a delegation of Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, which called on him at the Civil Secretariat here. Matters related to payments to sugarcane growers, Ramazan package and availability of sugar in the open market were discussed during the meeting.


Secretary Industries, DG Industries and others were also present. Mian Aslam said that the dealer mafia would not be allowed in the province to create fake shortage of sugar.

The delegation members agreed on providing sugar at subsidized rates in Ramazan bazaars. They also apprised the minister of the problems being faced by the sugar industry.
