Brig (retd) Ijaz Shah assumes charge as interior minister

Previously he was federal minister for parliamentary affairs

ISLAMABAD: Brigadier (retd) Ijaz Shah assumed office as the country's new security czar, less than a day after Prime Minister Imran Khan made major changes to his eight-month-old federal cabinet.

 

The portfolio was earlier held by the premier while Shehryar Afridi was made the minister of state for interior. Afridi's portfolio was changed to the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions.

The former soldier is a member of the National Assembly from the constituency of NA-118 (Nankana Sahib-II).

According to Express News, Shah arrived at Block R of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat at 9:00am and took charge as interior minister. On March 29 he was appointed as Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs.



Shah is a retired officer of the Pakistan Army. He has also served as the director-general of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) – a post he held from 2004 to 2008.
