Reckless driving

Letter April 19, 2019
Authorities must take immediate action to put and end to this kind of killings on the road

KECH, BALOCHISTAN: I would like to use this space to highlight the grave issue of reckless driving, due to which many precious lives are lost every day.

A few days ago a van carrying passengers collided head on with a speeding truck on National Highway near the Ghanja Dhori area of Mastung district in Balochistan.

The accident resulted in the deaths of 14 passengers, including women and children, and 18 people were injured. The unkindest cut of it all is that it destroyed numerous families.

This and many other accidents could have been avoided, if the truck driver had driven responsibly and followed the speed limit and highway rules.

Moreover, these types of accidents have been taking place on a regular basis, yet the authorities seem to be unmoved as they have so far failed to take deterrent actions against moron drivers who rule the roost on our roads.

The authorities must take immediate action to put and end to this kind of killings on the road. Here again we come to the rule of law. Please ensure the rule of law in our beloved country.
