Noted literary figure Jamil Jalibi passes away

89-year-old also served as Karachi University VC from 1983 to 1987

KARACHI: Well-known literary critic and writer, Jamil Jalibi passed away on Thursday after a prolonged illness. The 89-year-old was born in Aligarh in United India and migrated to Pakistan after Partition. He was best known for his scholarly work as a linguist and a critic and that includes books on languages, culture and identity. Some of his most famous works include, Tareekh-e-Adab-e-Urdu (History of Urdu Literature), Pakistan: The Identity Of Culture and many more.

 

A proud recipient of Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Siatatr-e-Imtiaz, Jalib also served as the Karachi University Vice-chancellor from 1983 to 1987.

His funeral prayers were offered after Asr prayers at Masjid Abu Bakar, Phase II, Defence Housing Society, Karachi.
