Homework burden during holidays

Letter April 18, 2019
Ministry of Education should instruct schools to limit the workload given to students

KARACHI: These days, children are under a lot of stress as they are burdened with academic commitments. Young students are often given excess amounts of homework, especially during their holidays. As they have their exams after their holidays, they are burdened with the homework as well as preparation for the impending exams.

Private schools do this in the name of academic excellence but this heavy workload and rigorous timetable mean that the children are unable to unwind and relax during their holidays. They spend their days off studying and preparing for exams and this system is proving too much of a burden for our children and preventing them from having a care-free childhood.

The Ministry of Education should instruct schools to limit the workload given to students, especially during the holidays. Schools and parents should also ensure this as it is more important for our children to have a balanced healthy life, rather than be overburdened from a young age, in the name of education.
