Indian Navy helicopter ditched in Arabian Sea

The helicopter was part of an Indian naval warship which was deployed in the sea

In the latest revelation, Indian Navy said its helicopter ditched at the Arabian Sea last week. According to a local media report, all three crew members were safe.

A board of inquiry was ordered to investigate the cause of the technical failure leading to the loss of the Chetak helicopter.

“The helicopter was part of an Indian naval warship which was deployed in the Arabian Sea,” added the report.



"The helicopter developed technical failure prior to ditching and the crew displayed immense professional prowess and sound training in deftly landing the helicopter in the water and successfully egressing from it," said the Indian Navy.

In February this year, Pakistan handed back a captured Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman Abhinandan who was taken into custody after his MiG-21 jet was shot down by a Pakistani fighter during a clash over Kashmir.

On March 31, 2019, another Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft crashed in the northern Indian state of Rajasthan during a routine mission. Media reports had confirmed the pilot of the MiG-27 aircraft ejected safely. Earlier on March 8, another MiG-21 Bison aircraft had crashed in the same Indian state.
