Advocate Sami Memon appeared before the East model court. The council terminated the licence of the young lawyer after Karachi Bar Association complained that Memon had violated the order of Pakistan Bar Council. The Sindh Bar Council had warned of revoking the licences of lawyers appearing in any of the four model courts.
The model courts were formed on the directives of the Supreme Court to deal with cases of heinous nature. The courts deal with cases on a daily basis and decide matters within three months. The federal and provincial governments have been asked to assist the model courts in the expeditious disposal of cases.
Lawyers disrupt court proceedings
The lawyers have reservations regarding this decision made by the Supreme Judicial Council. The lawyers protest every Thursday over the creation of model courts and giving the authority of Section 22 A of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC) to the Senior Superintendent of Police.
