Recently, the government allocated funds to construct the college building in the area. Due to a dearth of educational institutions in the region, the construction work commenced immediately. However, the contractor, who was assigned to complete the structure, reportedly used substandard material. As a result, the boundary wall collapsed within a few days after it was built.
Speaking to Express News, area resident Munawwar Azeem said that the contractor used poor quality material that led to the boundary wall to crumble. He added, “We brought the matter to the notice of Jhang building SDO several times but he did not take action over their complaints.”
Another resident Shabbir Inayat said the contractor should be punished and penalised for committing negligence and using substandard material. “The authorities should initiate investigations into the matter and award the contract to another party,” he maintained.
Meanwhile, an official of district administration, requesting anonymity, said that the matter has been brought into the knowledge of the higher authorities. “An investigation into the incident will be conducted to ascertain the exact cause of the wall collapse incident,” he mentioned.
He pointed out that if the contractor is found guilty, action will be taken against him as per the law.
