Solskjaer unveils veteran who will be leaving Manchester United in summer

Hint: he has embraced the armband for the Red Devils

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that club captain and defender Antonio Valencia will be saying goodbye to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.

Valencia joined United's ranks from Wigan Athletic in 2009 for nearly £16m, and although he joined as a winger, he was later asked to adapt to more defensive right-back role.

The 33-year-old then went on to win six major titles with the Red Devils.

“We’ll see who’s here for next season and I’ve got a couple of players in my head that could be captain,” said Solskjaer, according to FourFourTwo.

“We’ve had Antonio (Valencia), he’s going; we’ve had Ashley (Young); we’ve had Paul (Pogba), we’ve had David (de Gea); Chris (Smalling) has been captain, so there are players here who can be captain on the pitch.

“We just need to decide who’s the club captain. Who’s going to be the voice in and around [the place].”

While the aged right-back has been linked with Premier League clubs Arsenal and West Ham, the Norwegian is believed to be headed towards Major League Soccer where he may join his former United teammate Wayne Rooney at DC United.
