Imran Khan blasts federal budget

Imran Khan said the fiscal budget for 2010-11 will squeeze the last drop of blood of the common man.

June 07, 2010

Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Imran Khan said the fiscal budget for 2010-11 will squeeze the last drop of blood from the common man.

In a statement, Imran Khan said it was shameful that on one hand the government was snatching bread from the mouth of the poor by withdrawing subsidies on Atta, Ghee and Rice but on the other the budget for the prime minister's secretariat and the presidency has been increased by Rs 56.65 million and Rs 36.38 million respectively.

He said that about Rs 20 million were spent on the prime minister and his entourage in Brussels recently.

Imran Khan said the government will generate 65 percent of its income through indirect taxation which will affect the poor. He also blasted the government for not imposing agriculture income tax, and said that it wants to protect the interests of feudal lords sitting in parliament.

He said that the education and health sectors have been neglected in the budget, and that the government also failed to address the issue of circular debt and failed to identify a solution to the massive subsidies given to PEPCO, Railways and PIA.

No BS | 13 years ago | Reply I beg u Mr Khan, help us lead a movement of civil disobedience. We wont pay taxes unless all members of parliaments declare their incomes and taxes. We wont pay taxes unless the government imposes a wealth tax on likes of Nawaz Sharif & co - so that they dont get away with paying PKR 5,000 annual tax and spend PKR 17,000 of public money for changing their car tyre. We wont pay taxes until we get accountability of every single dime of the tax payers money.
Zulfiqar Haider | 13 years ago | Reply @S.A.R.A Indirect taxes is the money taken from the poor "indirectly" as the word says! For example, on commodities which everyone buys and would pay tax on. Tax on agriculture would be the money generated from land lords on their income and does not mean tax on poor. They are well off and earning millions and must be taxed. That will not affect the poor! I think people who criticize Imran must think twice and at least do their homework!!
