The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has written a letter to Chris Gayle, stating it remains open to the possibility of meeting and resolving the current conflict that has led to his exclusion from the national team, according to ESPNcricinfo.
Gayle was not selected for the series against India owing to differences with the board, including over a widely-publicised radio interview where he strongly criticised the WICB. The rift intensified after a heated meeting – which also involved West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) President Dinanath Ramnarine – on June 14 with the board, but both parties have since expressed a willingness to reconcile.
According to ESPNcricinfo, in the letter written to Gayle, the WICB Chief Executive Officer Ernest Hilaire wrote that the June 14 meeting failed as “the discussions were repeatedly diverted to peripheral issues”.
Hilaire then goes on to say that WICB is willing to meet Gayle again.
“However, the board recognises your contributions to West Indies cricket and remains available to meet with you, should you be willing to do so, so that we can bring some resolution to this matter,” writes Hilaire. “We await your response to discuss a mutually acceptable way forward.”
