An official of Kacha Koh police station told Express News that Nazar Hussain, a resident of Village 8/4, was suffering from mental health issues.

He added the accused also suspected that his 50-year-old wife, Mureedan Bibi, allegedly had an affair with another man. He said that in sheer frustration, Nazar set his house on fire after an argument with his wife. As a result, Mureedan Bibi was burnt alive, while her daughters Safia Bibi, 10, Amreen, 7, 10-year-old son Rehan and nieces Nimra and Shazia suffered critical burn injuries.

The police official highlighted that Rescue 1122 officials shifted the injured to the Nishtar Hospital’s burns unit for treatment. The accused escaped after the incident.

Meanwhile, taking note of the matter, Khanewal DPO Rana Muhammad Masoom formed a team under the supervision of DSP Shabbir Ahmed to nab the culprit.

The police have registered an FIR and conducted raids to arrest the suspect. Further investigations are under way.

Earlier in March, a woman was injured after her husband set her ablaze in Bhakkar’s Darya Khan tehsil.

Reportedly, Shehzad and Rubina tied the knot, but the couple separated a few weeks after their marriage. Rubina had started living at her brother’s house.

On the day of the incident, Shehzad had gone to Rubina’s brother’s home. When she answered the door, Shehzad urged her to reconsider their divorce. When she refused, he doused her in petrol and set her on fire. After doing so, the accused fled the scene.
