Oil tanker bursts into flames on Karachi flyover

No casualties have been reported in the incident

KARACHI:
An oil tanker overturned and burst into flames on a Karachi flyover in the Sher Shah area of the port city on Wednesday.

Initial reports suggested that the incident occurred due to overspeeding, causing the vehicle to overturn. The driver is missing since the incident.

The blaze engulfed a nearby warehouse and also consumed five motorcycles parked in the area. No casualties have been reported.

Authorities sealed the entry and exit points of the bridge resulting in a traffic jam on surrounding thoroughfares including the Lyari Expressway, Mauripur Road and the highways leading to Baldia Town and SITE industrial area.

The fire was extinguished by 10 fire brigades and fire tenders of the Pakistan Navy (PN) and the Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

A dense cloud of smoke covered the area and could be seen as far as I.I Chundrigar road.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and directed the commissioner to take necessary steps to avoid future damage and losses.
