PML-N senior leadership discussed the possibility of an operation in south Punjab during a meeting at Raiwind on Monday.

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif rallied party leaders from across the country including chief minister Shahbaz Sharif to discuss rising terrorist incidents in Punjab.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif briefed the meeting in detail on the worsening law and order situation in the aftermath of Ahmediyah mosques attacks.

He told the meeting that in recent incidents several leads were found that point to southern Punjab connection of terrorism.

Addressing the meeting Nawaz Sharif said that the situation demands a review of the province's security policy and stricter vigilance of extremist strongholds in Punjab.

While reviewing the budget for the fiscal year 2010-11 Nawaz termed it an anti-poor document.

Salman Latif | 13 years ago | Reply Shahbaz Sharif takes a sharp policy turn from his ostrich-denials to open admittance. And yet, he has absolutely no idea as to how to tackle the situation. Military solution is, by far, the worst way to resolve the issue. Treating it on the provincial level and not shoving it on the federation and army, the CM must formulate a low-level couter-terrorism strategy, to be implemented through his police and other provincial security agencies. Such agencies are well-informed of local networks and would fare lot better than the regular army. Military operation would be a total disaster, to say the least, disrupting normal life in most regions of Punjab.

Muhammad Luqman | 13 years ago | Reply They have no option but to allow forces to follow the 'shadows' in Punjab. Military operation is not a solution to every ill in this part of world. At first, government has to promote literacy and eradicate poverty as this twin-monster has been the major factor behind the growth of extremism in Pakistan.

Arayan | 13 years ago | Reply They had achieved victory in last elections by exploiting Lal Masjid issue. Therefore how they can now support operations in South Punjab? Most of their leading ministers are being supported by these extremist organizations. Now they are in Quagmire, but I think now its time for them to make up their mind and take some action. Otherwise they will soon lose public support as now people has started remembering Parvaiz Illahi era…........
