Be better human beings, Alvi tells graduates

NUML Gwadar campus begins Chinese language classes

President Arif Alvi on Thursday urged the graduating youth from National University of Modern Languages (NUML) to strive to be better human beings.

“Moral values are far more important than money, you cannot buy happiness and peace through wealth but you can gain it through moral values and humanity,” he said speaking as rector of the varsity at it 14th convocation.

President Alvi congratulated the students, their parents and teachers on the successful completion of education. “It is the era of modern technology and the Pakistani youth should be a part of international modern development.”

The president lauded the role of NUML for providing basic education to 40 street children under NUML Charagh-i-Badar project and supervising a complete school of 140 students where free education is being provided. He said that he is proud of Pakistani people because their compassion cannot be matched by any other nation. Dr Alvi advised the students to work hard and to excel in life but keep helping underprivileged class of the society.

During the ceremony 325 students were conferred degrees and 10 gold medals were awarded to graduates of different programmes. NUML Rector Major General (retd) Ziauddin Najam, NUML Director General Brig Muhammad Ibrahim, registrar, deans, directors, heads of departments and a large number of students along with their parents attended the convocation.

While addressing the participants NUML rector highlighted that under the CPEC project, NUML has established a center of excellence in Xinjiang province of China to impart learning of English and Urdu languages to Chinese people.

Moreover, another regional campus of NUML has been established in Gwadar to teach the Chinese language to locals of Gwadar who participate in trade and business through CPEC. NUML, currently, employs around 200 PhD faculty members while 117 more PhDs are expected to complete their degrees by next year.

Earlier in the ceremony, the NUML rector welcomed the chief guest and highlighted the achievements and contribution made by NUML in various fields of education, especially in regards to oriental and occidental languages, being one of the largest language universities in Asia.
