K-P Assembly speaker thinks savings can help end poverty

PESHAWAR: Savings can bring people out of poverty, suggested K-P Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani while speaking at 'Meet the Press' programme organised by Khyber Union of Journalists here at Peshawar Press Club (PPC) on Thursday.

"If a person who eats two rotis in a day, brings the number to one then the next day he can afford to eat two to three roties," he said replying to a question on how to control inflation and alleviate poverty.

Regarding the K-P Assembly’s performance, the speaker said that during 60 days of proceedings the provincial legilature has passed 20 to 22 bills which was a big achievement as any bill was required three to four days before the consideration stage.

Ghani said that he tries to maintain role of a bridge between the treasury and opposition benches. A speaker remains impartial during debate, though he is from the ruling party, Ghani said.

He appreciated the performance of Public Accounts Committee (PAC), KP Assembly and said that the committee has recovered more than Rs5 billion and efforts were continued for more recoveries. This all he said is done to the zero-tolerance of the government for corruption.
