Entertainment Desk April 03, 2019

Gone too soon, but never forgotten. Today, we remember the young Pakistani Pop singer, Nazia Hassan, on her 55th birth anniversary.

Leaving behind a legacy of iconic pop songs and catchy tunes, Hassan is the Pakistani sweetheart who stole millions of hearts with her alluring vocals and philanthropic endeavours.

She started her career at the mere age of fifteen and went on to sing popular solos and duets with her brother, Zoheb Hassan. Hailed as the Pop Queen of Pakistan, Nazia has played a key role in shaping the pop music industry in Pakistan and India. She’s a recipient of the Pakistani Pride of Performance Award and the Indian Filmfare Award, making her the youngest winner at the age of 16.

Today we’re remembering her by listening to the most famous songs that are the true embodiment of her soulful voice and charming personality.

Aap Jaisa Koi

This love song won Nazia the celebrated Filmfare Award which she sang for the Bollywood Film Qurbani back in 1980.

Nazia made her debut with the soundtrack of this movie that starred prominent Bollywood actors Zeenat Aman and Feroz Khan.

This song made her a household name across the border with the iconic lyrics, “Aap Jaisa Koi Meri Zindaagi Mein Aye Tou Baat Ban Jaye” etched into our memories.

Aankhien Milane Wale

A sensational hit with the masses back in 1983, this ballad is one of Nazia’s best performances in terms of the subtle disco music, enchanting lyrics, and unforgettable video.

Who can forget Nazia’s iconic entry down the stairs, wearing a pastel frock and holding a masquerade mask over her eyes and singing her heart out with, “Aankhein Milane Wale, Dil Ko Churane Wale, Mujh Ko Bhulaana Nahin.”

Her performance in the song and the video touches your soul with its uplifting music and a simple narrative.

Disco Dewaane

Disco Dewaane is a duet by the brother-sister duo that broke all the records. No matter the time or place, the catchy melody and the soothing harmonies compel listeners to loosen up and groove to the music.

The 2012 Bollywood movie, Student of the Year, directed by Karan Johar and produced under the banner of Dharma Products incorporated a revamped version of the song which went on to become a hot party number.

Dosti

Another song that made us fall in love with the sibling duo was Dosti. An ode to friendship, this melodious song went on to become the anthem for friendships that stand the test of time.

While pop songs come and go in the ever-changing music industry, classic songs such as Dosti  remain etched into our hearts forever!

Dum Dum Dee Dee

Who doesn’t remember the classic Dum Dum Dee Dee that was a desi take on the Alice in Wonderland theme?

This fantastical video and the peppy beat to it, was a favourite of every 80s child! Even though the lyrics holistically encapsulated the early days of romance, it is the video that stays with you.

We don’t know about you, but we’re taking a break mid-work to go and listen to these amazing songs by the Pop Queen of Pakistan, Nazia Hassan!

Zahid Husain | 4 years ago | Reply An icon, she left too early leaving behind her sweet voice and memories only to cherish. Now-a-days, the Pakistani music is at the mercy of "BHAANDS" who have nothing to please the listeners, be it voice, melody, poetry or the music... Very sad and heart-wrenching!!!!
