Dominant Pakistan enter junior Asia cup semis

Qadir’s hat-trick overwhelms Singapore at hockey event.

Pakistan continued their dominance at the Junior Asia Cup Hockey Tournament with an emphatic 6-0 victory over hosts Singapore to cruise into the semi-final of the competition.


According to the details made available, the defending champions, who mauled Brunei 18-0 and Chinese Taipei 17-0 in their first two matches, continued their impressive form against Singapore who were backed by a number of home spectators.

Bilal Qadir, who scored three goals, was named the man of the match while Waseem Abbas also played a pivoting role in the victory by scoring a brace. Arsalan with his goal was the other scorer in the match.

“The most satisfying thing in our performance so far is our defence,” team’s chief coach Rana Mujahid told The Express Tribune from Singapore.

“I am very happy with our performance especially after our match against Singapore which was highly anticipated  and was a pressure match.

“Hopefully the team will continue their good form in the later stages of the tournament.”

Pakistan, the defending champions in the event,  will play their next group match against Kazakhstan today. In their next match they will either meet Korea or Malaysia, based on which team wins the quarter-final.

Pakistan will play the  semi-final on June 25.
