LAHORE: Supreme Court Bar Association President Amanullah Khan Kanrani has termed the procedure for the appointment of judges incorrect, opining that the courts, lawyers and parliament must have that power.

He also advised against ‘trusting’ the National Database and Registration Authority, calling the power granted to it to provide a successor certificate ‘a big crime’, and alleged that Afghan and Bangladeshi nationals were using Pakistani passports and maligning the reputation of the country.

Talking to reporters at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s central secretariat, the SCBA president said that there was new hope in the country now that the PTI was in power and warned of a dangerous situation for the country should the current government fail. He also emphasised the importance of respecting the country’s institutions and accepting the verdicts of the judiciary, adding that there was a need to increase the number of judges in the country.

PTI’s additional central general secretary Ijaz Chaudhry asserted on the occasion that societies based on injustice do not survive and stressed that the PTI’s purpose was the provision of justice to the people.

He added that Imran Khan had ascended to the prime minister’s office after a 22-year struggle and was striving to strengthen the country economically, predicting that his party’s efforts for the country would bear fruit after a period of two years.

He also claimed that, due to the government’s steps, the United States had come to realise that it needed Pakistan.

On the issue of Kashmir, Ijaz Chaudhry said that freedom for Kashmiris was an essential objective of Pakistan’s and that, as long as the Kashmir issue remained unresolved, there could be no peace in the region. He also emphasised that Pakistan did not desire war with India but instead wanted a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.
