Five candidates file papers for deputy mayor’s slot in Karachi

Candidates include two from MQM-P, one each from PPP, PML-N and PTI

KARACHI: Five candidates have submitted their nomination papers on Friday to contest for Karachi's deputy mayor elections. They include two from Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and one each from Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

The Election Commission of Pakistan unseated Vohra following change of party after which the seat of deputy mayor fell vacant. The election will be held on April 18.

On the last day for submission of forms on Friday, the five candidates including MQM-P's Arshad Hasan and Manzoor Ahmed, PPP's Karamullah Waqasi, and two others submitted their nomination papers at the office of South deputy commissioner. Three hundred members of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation council will cast their votes on April 18 while the result of the election will be announced on April 19. Regional election commissioner for Karachi Ali Asghar Sial has been appointed as the district returning officer while South deputy commissioner will serve as the returning officer.
