State privileges against the Quran, Sunnah: CII

June 07, 2010

ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has declared certain incentives and privileges granted to government departments, the judiciary and executive as being against the teaching of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah.

During the 178th session of the CII held on Sunday, participants recommended that the council’s proposals be presented in the parliament as ordinances for legislation. The CII noted that the minorities’ funds could not be used for preparations for Hajj, umrah, milad or education of any Muslim. The CII also condemned the competition of sacrilegious caricatures that was hosted by the social networking website Facebook last month. JUI member Maulana Mirajud Din’s murder, the attacks on the places of worship of the Ahmadis in Lahore and the Israeli attack on the freedom flotilla were also condemned by the council. The CII has demanded formation of an independent investigation agency in the country. The investigation agency, they stated, should be formed of individuals with an academic background in law.

The council also recommended that courses on corruption be included in the curriculum of academic institutions.   During the meeting the participants proposed that the banking system should be made free of interest while changes should be made in it to base it on consultations.
