UNHCR provides equipment to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency has provided state-of-the-art medical equipment to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) to boost the performance and capacity of the ophthalmology department as well as meeting the increasing needs of the patients. The handing over ceremony for the equipment worth Rs21 million was held at LRH on Tuesday. The ceremony was attended by UNHCR Representative in Pakistan Ruvendrini Menikdiwela, Head of Sub Office Peshawar Dinesh Shrestha, Hospital Director Dr Khalid Masud, LRH Board of Governors Chairman Dr Nosherwan Burki and other dignitaries. Hospital Director Dr Masud said: “Provision of the latest medical equipment at the ophthalmology department will improve the quality of medical services provided to the general population.” Dr Burki appreciating UNHCR’s contribution said the hospital will to continue providing all types of health services to Afghan refugees at par with the Pakistani population.  Menikdiwela said UNHCR will continue to advocate for inclusion of refugees into the federal and provincial governments’ health plans and programmes.
