LAHORE:

An under-trial prisoner has petitioned the courts to let him be treated at an outside hospital as the doctors at the Camp Jail had been giving him fever and pain medication to treat a serious leg injury.

Muhammad Yaseen, who is accused of murder, submitted an application to Additional District and Sessions Judge Sheraz Kiani saying that his right leg had been paralysed a few weeks ago. He said that the jail doctors prescribed him Amoxcicline, Cholorphasamine and Saptrol, which are normally for fever, infection and pain.

Yaseen told the court that his condition was deteriorating and he was still unable to move his leg.

He asked the court to summon his medical report from the jail and grant him permission to have his leg examined at an outside hospital. The court set June 24 as the date for the next hearing.

Yaseen has been detained in Block II of the Camp Jail for more than 19 months. He told The Express Tribune in the courtroom that though his leg was affected by the paralysis at the last hearing on June 9, he had managed to turn up on foot. This time, he was bound to a wheelchair, he said, as his leg had gotten worse.

He said the conditions at the jail hospital were “pathetic”, as all the patients were prescribed the same medicine regardless of what ailed them.

He alleged that the jail management treated some prisoners very well because they bribed them. “The rest are treated like animals,” he added.

Kashif Rasool, assistant jail superintendent, denied that all patients were given the same medicine. He said Yaseen was making up stories to gain the judge’s sympathy.

He said that they took 10 heart patients a day on average to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology and Services Hospital for checkups.

More seriously the staff must have gotten some expired pain killers dirt cheat and that is what they are giving to treat aches, fever, pain, etc. This rotten to the core morals must be due to West or democracy.
