Plea to court: ‘Tell govt to respect people’s demand’

JuD chief wants ‘secret deals’ with US disclosed.

LAHORE:

Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed has moved the Lahore High Court (LHC) for the implementation of a resolution, unanimously passed by the Parliament, against US drone attacks on Pakistani soil during its joint session.

Saeed filed a constitutional petition through his counsel AK Dogar.

He prayed that the federal government, under Article 19-A of the Constitution, be directed to make public information that is of public importance, specifically the ‘secret deals’ with the US.

He prayed the court to declare that the pre-emptive strikes by foreign countries are not permitted under international law, therefore, every person has a right to protection and a direction in the nature of a mandamus be issued to the government.

The JuD chief said the resolution passed on May 14, 2011 represented the voice of the people and needed to be implemented.

He said to act against the voice of the people amounted to violation of their fundamental rights.

Saeed is seeking a court declaration that the government has acted against the general will of the people.

Advocate Dogar submitted that the president, prime minister and all state functionaries be made to follow the simple life of the Holy Prophet (pbuh).

He said they should vacate the presidency and the prime minister house etc and live in five-marla houses.
