Quetta Gladiators’ win

Letter March 23, 2019
It seems like a hollow win for Baloch people, as not a single player on the team hails from Balochistan

TURBAT, BALOCHISTAN: The fourth season of Pakistan Super League (PSL) came to an end with Quetta Gladiators bagging the trophy. While the team is supposed to represent Balochistan, it seems like a hollow win for the Baloch people, as not a single player on the team hails from Quetta, or the province.

Despite the province producing a number of talented players that are playing at the domestic level, they are neither selected for the PSL nor for the national cricket team. The PSL is supposed to be a platform for young players to gain international exposure.

However, if Baloch players do not get a chance to play alongside the best players in the world, how will the PCB develop further talent in the province?

During the Kech Festival held before the PSL this year, the anchor had announced that the League will enrol Baloch players soon. We are yet to see this promise materialise, but remain doubtful of this happening. I appeal to the Prime Minister to ensure a fair selection of young players across the province to represent Quetta Gladiators as well as the national team.
