Human rights are fundamental and universal

Every person on the planet is entitled to be treated fairly

GUDDU, SINDH: The topic of human rights is read about, written upon and discussed extensively. Even when discussing international law, international politics or any social issue at a domestic level, human rights is bound to play a very important role in the conversation.

The practical implication of these rights is seen in the way we live – from the minutest liberty we take for granted to certain rights and freedoms that we may theoretically possess, but are not granted due to the way our society functions.

The Declaration of Human Rights forms the basis of how we instinctively expect and deserve to be treated as a person, like the right to live freely and how we want ourselves to be treated.

There are many kinds of rights which are applicable to selective groups, but human rights are the only ones which are universal, which means they can be applied absolutely on everyone and everywhere.

Every person on the planet is entitled to be treated fairly according to these rights, irrespective of their relation to us, or their religious, social and financial affiliation. This implies that a domestic helper is entitled to the same rights and respect as their employer. Hence, it is illegal to discriminate against somebody and to treat them as lesser than us due to these superficial differences.
