Balochistan's irrigation minister stresses on canal project extension
Minister also receives briefing from an engineer
QUETTA:
Provincial Irrigation Minister Tariq Magsi underscored the importance of extending the Pat Feeder Canal to ensure water supply to all the areas included in the scheme under which it was built.
The minister received a briefing from the canal’s superintendent engineer, Qazi Abdul Raziq, upon which he said that the start of work on the project is inevitable as half of the population of the province of Balochistan is dependent on agriculture.
“The agriculture sector of Balochistan is related to canal system. The government is using all available resources to make the canal system of the province effective. In this regard, irrigation department is playing an instrumental role,” he said.
The minister said the extension of the Pat Feeder Canal will open new vistas of development and prosperity for the farmers of Balochistan.
He further directed that the work on the extension of Pat Feeder package (III) should be started. Through this project, the areas of Sobatpur, Jhal Magsi and Naseerabad can turn into green belt and relief can be provided to the farmers of the area, he added.
