Missing persons: 2-day deadline to appoint tribunal head

Supreme Court says kidnapping for ransom cases should be separated from missing persons' cases.

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday gave the government a two-day deadline to appoint the head of a tribunal tasked with locating missing persons.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Javed Iqbal was hearing the missing persons’ case in Islamabad.

The court observed that it was essential to appoint a head of the tribunal for providing a detailed report into the whereabouts of the missing persons. The government was also directed to take action in light of the evidence available.

Dissatisfaction was also expressed over the performance of foreign and interior ministries in the case.

The court also said that kidnapping for ransom cases should be separated from missing persons’ cases.

Hearing of the case will resume on June 27.

Balochi | 13 years ago | Reply If not the version of Brahamdagh Bugti, there are not more than 50 people who are missing. The uninformed would keep shouting about the thousands missing, I ask them all to give a legitimate proof or even record of people missing over that surpasses 50 people.
