Fashion model Halima Aden, who gained recognition for being the first woman to wear a hijab in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant, is officially branching out to the world of fashion designing. Halima will be releasing a collection of headscarves in collaboration with Turkish online clothing store, Modanisa, reported Harper's Bazaar. The line will apparently entail 27 headscarves, all co-created by the American-Somali model.

The launch will take place at the second edition of Istanbul Modest Fashion Week from April 20 to April 21. The event has previously seen great success in London, Dubai and Jakarta since its inauguration in Istanbul back in 2016. The fashion showcase has drawn increasing global attention to the flourishing modest fashion sector. Halima herself hit the Dubai Modest Fashion Week catwalk in 2017. This year’s event will also see the unveiling of various Ramazan collections.

Halima recently made headlines wearing a glittering chain-link Christian Cowan hijab on the New York Fashion Week ready-to-wear runway. She was also spotted walking for Tommy Hilfiger at the Tommy x Zendaya Paris Fashion Week show.

Off the catwalk, she’s built a reputation as a streetwear style star with a penchant for daring prints and vivid colours. So, it comes as no surprise that she has decided to venture into designing.

In a recent interview with Paper, the hijabi model stated that an absolute modest fashion must-have is “a nude-toned hijab” - is this a hint that we will possibly be seeing earthy toned pieces in her line? Guess we'll have to wait until April 20!
