Airspace to remain suspended for several hours in twin cities till March 23

Aviation authority informs commercial airlines about closure and flights schedule has been changed, say sources

RAWALPINDI: The airspace of twin cities, Rawalpindi-Islamabad, will remain suspended for five hours daily till March 22 and on March 23 the closure will be of eight hours on the occasion of Pakistan Day parade, sources privy to the development told The Express Tribune.

The combat aircraft will conduct flypast rehearsal during the time of  suspension.

In the first phase the aerial space will be closed from 9am to 12pm and in the second phase it will remain closed between 2pm to 4pm, they added.

The parade will include flypast by aircraft F-16, JF-17 Thunder, Mirage and others which will fly at low altitude in the skies of the twin cities.



The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has informed all the commercial airlines regarding the airspace closure and the schedule of all commercial flights has been changed, sources said.

Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohammad will be the chief guest at the Pakistan Day parade.

The chief military's spokesperson, Major General Asif Ghafoor, said in a tweet on Tuesday that the defence minister Azerbaijan, Bahrain’s army chief and other officials from Oman will attend the event.
