Another doctor assassinated in Kohat over extortion

Police arrested two suspects in the case

PESHAWAR: Another medical professional was assassinated in the Zangal Khel area of the Kohat district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

According to a police report, slain Professor Dr Awliya Jan Wazir of North Waziristan's Shawal tehsil was an eye specialist at the Kohat Hospital. Alongside, he ran a private clinic in the district.

Crime rising at alarming rate in Islamabad

Two suspects—Meherban Khan and Mir Rehma— of Karak district were arrested by the police. The police also recovered pistols from them. A first information report (FIR) had been lodged against the duo to investigate the matter.

It is further reported that several medical practitioners have been assassinated in K-P after they were blackmailed into paying extortion money but they refused.

As a result of these killings, the doctor's association has protested and demanded security for their families.

The professor's body has been handed to the family for the rites of burial.
