The need for dam

Local people do not have adequate amount of water for daily use, a huge amount of floodwater goes waste

BALNIGWAR, DASHT: Balnigwar is a sub-tehsil of Dasht in Balochistan province located 90km to the west of Turbat. Recently hit by heavy rains and landslides, this place is in a dire need of a dam to conserve the excess water available as well as to help prevent flooding of the area.

While local people do not have adequate amount of water for daily use, a huge amount of floodwater goes waste. Besides, wastewater too flows into small rivers without being treated for purification. The wastewater is either used to irrigate fields which results in a lower quality crop, or it flows into the Gwadar Sea where pollution levels are rising as a consequence.

Residents claim that the government had planned three dams in the area, but none has been constructed yet and the funds set aside for the projects have been misappropriated.

The provincial government should pay an urgent attention to the issue and immediately start constructing a dam large enough to cater to the needs of the area.
