Woman gives birth on pavement in Muzaffargarh
Family accuses doctor of committing negligence, demand action
MUZAFFARGARH:
In an incident of medical negligence, a woman gave birth to a child on a pavement in Muzaffargarh, Express News has learnt.
The woman’s husband Shahid Iqbal, a resident of Jinnah Colony, said his wife had gone into labour and was having contractions. The man added that he took his wife to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital Chowk Sarwar Shaheed for delivery.
Shahid mentioned that a lady doctor identified as Faryal, who was on duty at the health facility, examined his wife and told him that there was still some time until the child could be delivered. She also asked him to arrange blood for his wife and to bring her to the hospital the next day.
He said that while they were returning home, his wife started experiencing excruciating pain. Shahid said as there was no hospital near the spot he laid his wife on the pavement where she gave birth to the baby.
Later, he elaborated that he took his wife and the baby to a private clinic where doctors and staff provided them with medical assistance.
He accused the lady doctor of committing negligence and demanded the authorities take notice of the matter. He demanded strict action against the doctor to such incidents from happening in the future.
When contacted, the THQ Hospital administration refused to comment on the issue.
Earlier, a woman gave birth to a child on hospital grounds after medical staff allegedly refused to admit her in Dera Ghazi Khan’s Teaching Hospital.
Sajida was brought to the hospital after she went into labour. But instead of admitting her, the staff and doctors asked her family to bring admission slip and her ultrasound report.
The hospital staff refused to admit the woman despite suffering from excruciating labour pain. Helpless, the woman’s family laid her on the hospital ground where she gave birth to a baby surrounded by people.
