Fawad mistakenly refers to Russia as "USSR" on Russian TV interview

The comment was made when the host sought the minister's remarks on the recent tensions between Pakistan, India

In a gaffe on Russian national television network RT, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry expressed Pakistan's desire to establish "good relations with the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR)".

The comment was made during an interview when the host sought the information minister's remarks on the recent tensions between nuclear-armed arch-rivals Pakistan and India.



On March 1, Russian Foreign Minister Viktorovich Lavrov reiterated an offer of mediation and provision of a venue for peace talks between India and Pakistan during a telephone call with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

FM Qureshi appreciated Russia’s balanced and constructive role in de-escalation of tensions in the recent impasse between the two neighbours.
