Man shoots wife for filing divorce case

Police say suspect’s wife had moved to her parent’s house, along with the children

A man shot and injured his wife for filing a divorce case in a court in Burewala on Tuesday.

Sahuka Police Station SHO Mazhar Hayat told Express News that Muhammad Amjad had married S* a few years ago and the couple had two children.

He added differences developed between the couple after some tome and S* went to her parents’ house, along with the kids. He said Amjad tried to convince his wife to return, but she refused.

The police official maintained that the woman later filed a divorce petition in a local court, demanding separation from her husband.

The SHO highlighted that when Amjad learnt of the matter, he requested his relatives and family members to stop S* from taking such a step.

Mazhar revealed the accused decided to act and said S* was on her way home from school when Amjad ambushed her and opened fire. As a result, the victim suffered a bullet injury and was shifted to Burewala Tehsil Headquarter Hospital for treatment.


SHO Mazhar said that a case has been registered against the suspect. He said a culprit’s house was raided to arrest him, but he managed to escape. Further investigations are under way.

On January 25, a man tortured his wife to death in order to marry his sister-in-law in Pakpattan.

Salma Bibi, a resident of Village 40-SP, married Tahir Mahmood in 2016. After a few months, Tahir allegedly developed a relationship with his sister-in-law Aiman Bibi.

The culprit wanted to marry his sister-in-law and sought permission from his wife. However, his wife refused to give Tahir her permission ­for the marriage despite repeated attempts.

The accused was enraged and had a heated argument with Salma over the issue. Later, Tahir and Aiman tortured Salma to death and fled the scene.
