Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut says that her recent call for the
"destruction of Pakistan" came to her as a natural response after hearing about the attack in Pulwama. The attack took place on February 14, killing nearly 40 troopers in the Indian-occupied region of Kashmir.

In her address at the India Today Conclave on Saturday, the Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi actor defended her controversial remark, stating it was an instinctive sentiment. "A ban on Pakistan is not the solution. It's destruction is," she had said.

When asked about said statement, Ranaut explained,"I think it was a very, sort of, instinctive sentiment that we all felt that time when we were faced with that type of incident. It was possibly the most brutal and most inhuman attack in centuries. It will always be a deep scar in our conscience."

The starlet was "deeply moved" by the brutality of the attack. "You cannot be such a victim of your own mind that at that moment also, you are letting your thought processes take over and be like, 'What is the best response to this? Let me think about it'. It's okay to let your instinct take over," Ranaut added.

She mentioned that she even felt going to the India-Pakistan border  herself to "sort of, snatch somebody's gun and do the deed."

Ranaut also slammed fellow actor Ranbir Kapoor for not taking a stand on the issues. "There are few actors in our industry, like Ranbir Kapoor, who have been saying in an interview that, ‘We have a regular supply of water and electricity at our homes so why should I comment about politics'?" the Simran actor remarked. "But I feel that, because of this country’s people, you are living in your luxurious homes and you are traveling in your Mercedes so how can you talk like that? This is irresponsible behaviour and I am not that kind of person.”

In a 2018 interview, Kapoor was asked why he shies away from making political statements. He replied saying that he doesn’t follow politics as it makes no difference to his life. The Bollywood superstar had added that since he lives a luxurious life and has complete access to basic needs like water and electricity, he feels fairly satisfied.

When asked if she ever planned on joining politics or participating in an election campaign, Ranaut said, “I don’t have any intention to join politics or an election campaign of a political party. Many people feel that I want to enter politics but that’s not true."

She also added that if expressing her opinions about a certain issues ruins her film career, she is okay with it.

“If talking about politics can hamper my career, then let it be. I feel you shouldn’t distance yourself from issues of the country. In a democracy, you should speak about how the government has performed and also about your political inclination as a youth of this country," she added. "You cannot say, 'Why should I talk about politics when I get all the facilities.' I don’t understand why they think of their career so much that they don’t have anything to do with their own country?”

On the work front, Ranaut will be next seen in Mental Hai Kyaa? opposite Rajkummar Rao, slated to release this May.
