IBA hosts drama festival

Punjab University's team emerges as Theatron champions

KARACHI: The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) hosted its National Drama Festival, Theatron, from February 26 till 28 in which students from various institutions across Pakistan participated.

The aim of the festival was to revive theatre and provide a platform for budding thespians. Students from Greenwich University, Government College University Lahore, Punjab University, Karachi Theatre Productions, Iqra University, Mistagh Foundation, Aga Khan University, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology and Institute of Business Management put up great performances in the event.

This year, a team of students from the Punjab University emerged as the Theatron champions and bagged the grand prize of Rs100,000. Awards were also given for Best Actor, Best Technical, Best Director, Best Moment and others.

The plays were judged for their versatility and concepts. The judges gave their valuable feedback to the participants to ensure improvement in future performances. The event also included a social event, Laughter Eve, in which renowned comedians, Akbar Chaudhry and Shehzad Ghias Shaikh, entertained the audience with their stand-up comedy routines.

The event concluded with a play by the host, called Madari, written and directed by Hurmat Kazmi.

The industry's prominent personalities such as Durdana Butt, Farhan Ali Agha, Anwar Iqbal, Saima Akram Chaudhry, Nadia Hussain and Faakhir Mehmood also attended the event.
