KARACHI:

Pakistan’s young brigade started their Junior Asia Cup Hockey Tournament title defence with an overpowering victory over Brunei, handing them an 18-0 drubbing in their opening match of the event in Singapore yesterday.

According to details available here, the Pakistan junior team that won the Asian junior title in Myanmar two years ago, dominated the match right from the beginning and did not allow Brunei even a chance as their opponents struggled throughout.

Young penalty-corner specialist Waseem Abbas was undoubtedly the star of the show, scoring seven goals in the commanding victory. Bilal Qadir and Asad Bashir were the other main contributors and scored four goals each.

The defending champions play their second match of the tournament against Chinese Taipei today.
