World champion Sebastian Vettel is looking forward to the European Grand Prix next weekend and is confident his RB6 will be good around the ‘tricky’ Valencia street circuit.
Vettel has dominated the 2011 World Championship so far, although he had to settle for second in Canada, after an error on the final lap let McLaren-Mercedes man Jenson Button through to an astounding win.
However, the German remains way out front in his bid to retain his drivers’ crown, although he has also warned that just one error could prove fatal in Valencia.
“The atmosphere around the harbour in Valencia is quite similar to Monaco, except that the paddock is bigger and the garages are larger,” he said. “The circuit is a street circuit, but the average speed [200kph] is extremely high, so it’s tricky.”
Despite remaining wary of the difficult circuit, he remained confident of success.
“We had a good race there last year though and the car should be good,” he said. “I’m looking forward to it.”
Ferrari target Button
Meanwhile, former winner Button is being targeted by Ferrari to partner double world champion Fernando Alonso. The harmony within the McLaren squad was disrupted at the Canadian Grand Prix despite Button’s incredible victory in the rain. Fellow Briton Lewis Hamilton looked to overtake his teammate and ended up striking the wall and a pit board.
According to a Ferrari official, the team is serious about getting the Canadian Grand Prix winner on board.
“There’s been a lot of talk within Ferrari about getting Button,” a Ferrari official told News of the World.
“They’ve already checked to see if he would be available. The team realise they need a stronger partner for Fernando Alonso than Felipe Massa if they want to win the title again.”
