Rain, snowfall continue for the second day across K-P

PESHAWAR: At least three children were killed and seven others seriously injured when the roof a house crashed over a family in the North Waziristan on Saturday, the local administration said.

According to the details a mud made house in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan collapsed after heavy rain and snow recorded in the tribal district during the last two days.

The district administration said that at least 11 people were trapped in the incident, in which three of children died, while seven were rescued seriously injured.

The injured people were shifted to the Miranm Shah Hopsital for treatment, where they would get free treatment from district administration.

Chief Minister Mahmood Khan expressed of sorrow over the death of children in Datta Khel and directed the district administration to help the distressed family.

In view of the continuous rains, CM Mahmood directed all commissioners, district governments and PDMA to be on alert for immediate response to any possible mishap like landslide and flashflood.

In his message he said that every possible step should be taken to protect the life and property of the people adding that no laxity in this respect would be tolerated.

Rain is continuing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and turned the weather cold in the province.

The areas of Malakand, Hazara division, tribal districts and other parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and other parts turned cold due to rain and snowfall on mountains.

According to Pakistan Metrological Department, the current spell of rain and snowfall is expected to continue for the next 24 hours.

Rain was recorded in Peshawar, Malakand, Hazara, Buner, Dir, Kohat, Nowshera, Mardan, Orakzai, South Waziristan and other tribal districts, while snowfall is also continuing in Orakzai and Parachinar along with other mountainous areas.

School holidays extended

Meanwhile the district education officer has asked the deputy commissioner Swabi to extend the school holiday upto tenth of this month after heavy snowfall and rain recorded in district.

The EDO has urged that due to the severe cold weather, the school at the following Tehsils should be extended to 10 of March, which included,  Oghi, Darband, Mansehra, Baffa and Balakot .

Next 24 hour forecast

According to Met Office mainly cold and cloudy weather is expected in most parts of the province. Widespread thunderstorm rain with gusty winds and snowfall over the hills is expected in Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Khyber, Mohmand, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Orakzai, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, D I Khan, Tank, North & South Waziristan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Battagram, Mansehra, Kohistan, Torghar, Shangla, Bunner, Swat, Malakand, Chitral, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Bajaur, Mardan and Swabi districts. During this spell land sliding may occur at vulnerable places of Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram and Mansehra districts.

The weather report said that Parachinar recived 30mm rain, Bannu 19mm, Malamjaba 14mm, Dir 12mm, Timergara 10mm, DI Khan and Mirkhani 7mm, Kakul and Peshawar 5mm, Balakot, Cherat and Drosh 2mm, Saidu Sharif, Chitral and Kalam received 1mm of rain. Lowest minimum temperature was 0.5 degree centigrade in Kalam.
