Drug pusher guns down cop to evade arrest

Eyewitnesses said Asif had been selling drugs in the area for a long time and he had the support of influential people

A police constable was shot dead by a drug trafficker during a raid in Gujranwala’s Ahmed Nagar Chattha Town, Express News reported.

Ahmed Nagar police station official said officials received a tip-off that a notorious drug pusher identified as Asif was present in Kot Paroya area. He added that the accused was wanted for a number of cases, while several FIRs had been registered against him.

He maintained that the task of apprehending the suspect was given to three policemen identified as Mubashir, Nasir and Amin. The official mentioned that the cops conducted a raid in the area but when the culprit spooted the police team, he opened fire on them.

As a result, Police Constable Amin suffered bullet injuries and was taken to a local hospital but he could not survive, he said. The deceased policeman hailed from Qila Deedar Singh area. He said that the suspect managed to escape from the spot. After the incident, police cordoned off the area and started a search operation to nab the accused.

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses told Express News that accused Asif had been selling drugs in the area for a long time and he had the support of influential people.

They revealed that the culprit fired five shots at the victim that hit his legs and head. Police have registered a case. However, the accused could not be arrested till filing of this report.

Earlier, a robber was killed during an encounter with police in Faisalabad’s Jaranwala area.

Reportedly, Muhammad Ashfaq, a resident of Dunya Pur, was travelling in his vehicle when two robbers on a motorcycle intercepted him near Balochni police station.

The culprits snatched mobile phones, Rs20,000 in cash and other valuables from him at gun point. While the outlaws were carrying out the robbery, people in the area informed the police regarding the incident.

A police team reached the spot and challenged the robbers. The accused opened fire on the police team and tried to escape. During the shootout, one of the suspects Khurram was killed while his accomplice Zulfiqar was taken into custody.
