KU students’ transport problem

Letter February 27, 2019
The charges for the private bus service are not budget-friendly for students coming from middle-class backgrounds

KARACHI: Karachi University is one of the largest universities of Pakistan. It has thousands of students enrolled from all over the country, making transport an important issue for all of them.

KU provides a shuttle service for students via buses that stop at designated ‘points’. However, the students have been facing difficulty due to the lack of these buses. The increasing number of students has led to an overcrowding in these buses. Many buses have students beyond their capacity. Those who do, have to struggle with the overcrowding in the summer heat. Some try standing in the doorways for ventilation, while others suffocate.

An alternative mode of transport is private buses, but the charges for the service are not budget-friendly for students coming from middle class backgrounds. The university administration should look into the issue and allocate more buses for the students of the university as per the needs of the students enrolled.
