ISLAMABAD : Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has said Pakistan Television (PTV) Managing Director Arshad Khan has to go, citing transfer of a hefty amount from PTV’s account under the name of salary disbursement.
“The PTV MD has hijacked the situation as the PTV Headquarter was closed for 23 days,” said the minister while talking to media on Monday.
“The entire PTV is on one side while the MD on the other,” said Fawad.
During the session of a Senate committee on Monday, the PTV workers union, in favour of the information minister, reached outside the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority Headquarters.
They protested against the PTV MD. They chanted “go, MD go” and “self-imposed MD unacceptable” slogans.
The members of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting held negotiations with the protesting union workers.
After hearing their demands, the committee members assured the protesters of resolving their issues.
Standing Committee Chairman Faisal Javed said, “The committee has taken notice of the situation and discussed the issue in the meeting.”
He assured the protesters of solving their problems, saying the information minister has also written a letter to the prime minister on the reservations of the PTV employees.
Pir Sabir Shah said, “Opposition also supports the demands of the PTV employees.”
Rubina Khalid said, “The PPP will join the workers’ protest if the matter is not resolved on a priority basis.”
Talking to the media outside the Pemra Headquarters, Fawad said, “Advertisement has been given for a new MD. The incumbent PTV MD should resign voluntarily.”
Fawad said, “All of the members of the committee have said the MD should be removed. The committee will submit its recommendations to the prime minister.”
He said, “How can the board of directors run the affairs of the corporation when there is no chairman. Since 23 days the PTV HQ was closed, the MD could not even go there. PTV is running in loss due to lack of proper management.
“Even today, he could not attend the committee meeting. No institution can be run in this manner.”
