Killer food

Another five from a family die after eating at a restaurant in Karachi

KARACHI: Just a few months after the death of two children due to consumption of expired food at a famous eatery in Karachi, another five from a family have died after eating at a restaurant in Karachi’s Saddar area. In a similar fashion, the authorities will be in action once again, the police will seal the restaurant and investigate the owner, all as the business per usual, only for the days to pass by.

With restaurants, roadside cafes and vendors in almost every locality across the city, a food authority alone cannot keep check on what’s being sold as food. The deaths of two children late last year should have been enough to wake up the government from its slumber and initiate action. Fatal accidents in amusement parks and deaths after consumption of poisonous food are few not-so trivial issues that are to be handled in a caviliar fashion. They demand utmost attention of the authorities concerned.
