Punjab Police recover woman from fake faith healer’s custody

Culprit had sexually harassed several women in the past

A fake faith healer was arrested by police in Multan’s Shujabad area, Express News reported on Thursday.  Police also recovered a woman from the accused’s custody.

An official from City police station said that Zahoor, who posed as a ‘faith healer’, had been residing in Sikandarabad Basti for the past four years.

He added that people from far-flung areas used to visit his place for solution to their problems. The official highlighted that the culprit had allegedly sexually harassed several women in the past.

He revealed that a woman identified as Maria, who was kept in illegal detention for the past four months by the suspect, managed to escape from his house and took shelter in a mosque.

She called the police on the helpline and revealed that the fake faith healer had detained another woman identified as Asma for the past several months. On the information given

by the victim, the police raided the suspect’s house and recovered the girl. Police also arrested Zahoor and put him behind bars. Later, people in the area lodged a protest against the fake faith healer and demanded that police award him strict punishment.

They said that the accused had been involved in sexually harassing several women in the past. Meanwhile, police have registered a case against the accused and have opened investigations.

Earlier, a man in Sargodha killed his 18-month-old daughter on the instructions of a fake faith healer after he said that she is a ‘bad omen’ for him. Mateeur Rehman, the suspect, had divorced his wife, Sundas Bibi, and had taken custody of his daughter. Misguided by the fake faith healer, he proceeded to take his own daughter’s life.
