The curse of poverty

Letter February 21, 2019
With nearly 20 million homeless people in Pakistan according to UN report

KECH: Poverty is a huge problem in our country. According to a United Nations report, there are nearly 20 million homeless people in Pakistan.

While it is unfortunate that a vast majority of people in this country go to bed hungry, many take extreme measures to feed their families. For instance, there have been cases of parents selling their children for money. It is difficult for any parents to sell his or her own offspring and it hurts to even imagine what a child must be going through such a situation but poverty compels people to do so.

The government should actively work towards eradicating poverty as it leads to many social evils. The government should provide for the basic needs of all its citizens.
